Are children more ADHD/ADD now than twenty years ago?
Some parents might say, “yes,” with the label being applied to so many of their children.
We believe that children or adults who may have succeeded well in the past, are now showing more signs of ADHD/ADD because we are in a world that is moving at a much faster pace, with more information than ever that needs to be quickly processed and attended to.
We also know that children and adults with attentional issues can learn to focus given the correct diagnosis and treatment. With every evaluation we administer, we ask the question, “What makes this person inattentive and what therapy will change that for him/her?
Although we are not completely in opposition to using medications to help a child focus, we have seen hundreds of children who may have at one time been labeled as ADD/ADHD, yet with the correct processing therapy, have made great strides and are no longer struggling today.
